Rhonda Hansome's Career
In 1975, Rhonda Hansome started her career as a puppeteer. She worked with the Muppet Vazh on the TV show Saturday Night Live. She has performed comedy before big music stars. These include Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross. Rhonda is known for talking about race in her comedy acts.
Rhonda began doing stand-up comedy to earn money. This was between her acting jobs. By 1989, she was performing regularly. She performed at colleges and comedy clubs. She also used the stage name Passion for some comedy shows. In 1985, she was part of "Comedy Comes to Harlem." Later, she performed in "The Poet and the Preacher." This show was at the Nuyorican Poets Café. In 1997, she had her own show called "Last stop before dreadlocks."
Rhonda Hansome is also featured in a documentary. It is called I Be Done Been Was Is. This film was made in 1984 by Debra J. Robinson. It talks about challenges faced by four Black female comedians.
In 1989, she appeared in the HBO comedy series First & Ten. She was also in the movie 3,000.
