After finishing her studies, Riann Steele performed in many plays for the Royal Shakespeare Company. These included famous plays like A Midsummer Night's Dream and Hamlet. She even appeared in a TV movie version of Hamlet in 2009 with David Tennant.

From 2009 to 2010, she played Nurse Lauren Minster in the TV show Holby City. Her first big movie role was in Treacle Jr. in 2010. In 2012, she played Shaks in the film Sket. Shaks was the girlfriend of a gang leader. That same year, she appeared in Doctor Who (series 7) as Queen Nefertiti.

Riann also played Cleo, a therapist, in the comedy series Lovesick. She was also in four episodes of NCIS: New Orleans as Sydney Halliday. In 2021, Riann Steele played Finola Jones in the NBC drama Debris.
