Ric Esther Bienstock OC is a Canadian filmmaker. She is famous for making documentary films that investigate real-life stories. Documentaries are movies that show true events and facts.
Ric was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She studied at Vanier College and McGill University. She has made many different kinds of films. Some of her movies look into serious social issues. An example is Ebola: Inside an Outbreak, which showed the Ebola outbreak in Zaire. She has also directed lighter, more entertaining films, like Penn & Teller’s Magic and Mystery Tour.
In 2015, Ric received the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism. This is a very important award from the Canadian Academy of Cinema and Television. She was also honored at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. There, she received the Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year's Women in Film.
Ric has won many awards for her films. These include a U.S. Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism. She also won two Edward R. Murrow Awards. Another top award she received was an Alfred I. Dupont-Columbia Award. This award is for excellent broadcast journalism. She has also won Genie Awards, British Broadcast Awards, and Royal Television Society Awards.
