Ricardo Antonio Chavira (born September 1, 1971) is an American actor. He is famous for playing Carlos Solis in the TV show Desperate Housewives from 2004 to 2012. He also played Abraham Quintanilla in Selena: The Series in 2020.

Early Life and Education
Ricardo Chavira was born in San Antonio, Texas. His father, Juan Antonio Chavira, was a judge. Ricardo grew up in San Antonio and went to Robert E. Lee High School.
He continued his education at the University of the Incarnate Word. Later, he earned a special degree called a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of California San Diego in 2000. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles to start his acting career. He has worked in movies, TV shows, and plays.
Acting Career Highlights
Ricardo Chavira started his career with small roles on popular TV shows. These included NYPD Blue, 24, The Division, Joan of Arcadia, and JAG. In 2002, he had a repeating role in the comedy-drama Six Feet Under.
Becoming Carlos Solis
In 2004, Ricardo Chavira got a big role as Carlos Solis in the TV series Desperate Housewives. His character was married to Gabrielle Solis, played by Eva Longoria. The show became very popular for ABC.
Ricardo and the other actors on Desperate Housewives won awards together. They received two Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2005 and 2006. He was also nominated three times for an ALMA Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. The show ran for eight seasons and ended in 2012.

After Desperate Housewives, Ricardo Chavira continued acting. In 2013, he appeared in two episodes of Burn Notice. He also starred in the NBC sitcom Welcome to the Family.
From 2016 to 2017, Ricardo had a big role in the political thriller Scandal. He played Governor Francisco "Frankie" Vargas, who ran for president. At the same time, he had a repeating role in Jane the Virgin as Bruce. In 2017, he also appeared in the Netflix horror-comedy Santa Clarita Diet.
In 2020, Ricardo Chavira played Abraham Quintanilla, the father of the famous singer Selena, in the Netflix series Selena: The Series. He also guest-starred on Chicago P.D. in 2021.
Ricardo has also been in several movies. These include Days of Wrath (2008), Saving God (2008), and Piranha 3D (2010). He also lent his voice to characters in the film Dead Space: Aftermath and the video game Dead Space 3.

Ricardo Chavira is married to Marcea Dietzel. They got married on September 22, 2007. They have two children: a son named Tomás Antonio (born 2003) and a daughter named Belén Elysabeth (born 2008).
Ricardo is also involved in charity work. He is an honorary spokesman for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity in San Antonio. This charity helps fight breast cancer. In 2005, he was the National Team Captain for the Race for the Cure event in Washington, D.C. He also worked with actor James Denton to support the Lee National Denim Day breast cancer fundraiser in 2005.
