Ricardo Domínguez (born July 20, 1985 – died February 22, 2017) was a professional boxer from Mexico. He fought in the Light Welterweight division, which is a weight class for boxers. He is most famous for winning the Campeón Azteca tournament in 2009. This was a big boxing competition for Lightweight boxers.
Ricardo Domínguez's Boxing Career
Ricardo Domínguez started his professional boxing journey in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. His very first fight was against Eduardo Castillo, and Ricardo won!
Winning the Campeón Azteca Tournament
In 2009, Ricardo took part in the first-ever Campeón Azteca tournament. This event was for boxers in the Lightweight division. Ricardo showed great skill, beating Saul Carreon and Jesus Gonzalez in the first two rounds.
He then made it to the championship fight of the tournament. There, he faced Reyes Sanchez and won by a knockout. Winning this tournament not only gave him prize money but also a chance to fight for a major title. He earned the right to challenge the WBC Lightweight Champion.
Fighting for World Titles
Ricardo Domínguez got his first chance to win a world title in May 2010. He fought against Humberto Soto, who was the WBC Lightweight Champion at the time. Unfortunately, Ricardo lost this fight, which was his first title match.
Later that same year, on November 27, 2010, Ricardo had another shot at a world title. He challenged Miguel Vazquez, who held the IBF Lightweight championship. This fight took place in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Ricardo lost this match as well, making it his second time fighting for a major championship.
