Ricardo de la Cierva y Hoces (born November 9, 1926 – died November 19, 2015) was an important person in Spain. He was a historian, which means he studied and wrote about the past. He was also a politician, meaning he helped make decisions for the country.

Ricardo de la Cierva was born in Madrid, the capital city of Spain. He spent many years working for the Spanish government. He represented the region of Murcia in two important parts of the government: the Congress of Deputies and the Senate. He served in these roles from 1977 to 1982.

A Career in Politics

Ricardo de la Cierva held a very important job in 1980. He was the Minister of Culture for about nine months. This role meant he was in charge of things like art, music, and history for the whole country.

When he first started in politics, Ricardo de la Cierva was part of a group called the Union of the Democratic Centre. This was a political party. In February 1982, he decided to join a different party, the People's Alliance. He finished his time in the Spanish Parliament, known as the Cortes Generales, in August of that same year.

Besides his work in politics, Ricardo de la Cierva was also a successful writer. He wrote many books about history.

Awards and Publications

In 1988, he won a special award for his writing. He received the second prize in the Premio Planeta de Novela, which is a very famous book award in Spain. He also wrote for a magazine called Época.

Ricardo de la Cierva passed away in 2015.
