Rice began as a small settlement centered around a country post office. Post offices were very important back then. They were often the main way people sent and received letters and packages. They also served as a central meeting place for people in the area.
A post office was first opened in Rice in 1876. It helped connect the people living in Rice with the rest of the country. This post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed its doors in 1904.
