Rice Lake (town), Wisconsin facts for kids
Rice Lake is a town located in Barron County, in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. In 2020, about 2,813 people lived there. This was a bit less than the 3,041 people counted in 2010. The larger City of Rice Lake is mostly found within the town's borders. Also, two smaller communities, Campia and Dobie, are partly located in the town.

Geography of Rice Lake Town
The town of Rice Lake is in the northeast part of Barron County. It surrounds the City of Rice Lake on its west, north, and east sides.
Water Bodies in the Town
The main body of water, Rice Lake, is mostly in the city. However, its northern part reaches into the town. Some smaller sections of the lake also extend east into the town. The Red Cedar River flows into the town from the northeast. It then goes southwest into Rice Lake (the lake and the city). After leaving the lake, the river continues south. It forms a natural border between the city and the town.
Roads and Transportation
U.S. Route 53 is a major four-lane highway. It runs north to south through the town, west of the city. You can get onto this highway from Exits 140 and 143. Wisconsin Highway 48 crosses US-53 at Exit 143. This highway also goes through the town, both east and west of Rice Lake city.
Land and Water Area
The United States Census Bureau says the town covers about 71.2 square kilometers (27.5 square miles). Most of this area, about 68.2 square kilometers (26.3 square miles), is land. The rest, about 3.0 square kilometers (1.2 square miles), is water. Water makes up about 4.21% of the town's total area.
People of Rice Lake Town
In 2000, there were 3,026 people living in the town. These people lived in 1,139 households, and 877 of these were families. The town had about 114.7 people per square mile. There were 1,216 homes, with about 46.1 homes per square mile.
Diversity in the Community
Most people in the town were White (98.25%). A small number were Black (0.17%), Native American (0.23%), or Asian (0.26%). Some people (0.66%) were from two or more races. About 0.96% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.

Out of the 1,139 households, 36.4% had children under 18 living with them. Most households (67.3%) were married couples living together. About 6.7% had a female head of household with no husband present. Around 23.0% were not families. Also, 19.4% of all households were single individuals. About 7.6% of these individuals were 65 years old or older and lived alone. The average household had 2.66 people, and the average family had 3.04 people.
Age Groups in the Town
The population was spread out by age. About 27.0% were under 18 years old. Around 7.7% were between 18 and 24. The largest group, 28.7%, was between 25 and 44. People aged 45 to 64 made up 24.5%.
