Richard A. Robinson (born December 10, 1957) is an American lawyer. He used to be a very important judge on the Connecticut Supreme Court. He served as the chief justice of this court from 2018 to 2024. Before that, he was an associate justice from 2013 to 2018.

Richard Robinson's Early Life and Career
Richard Robinson was born in Stamford, Connecticut. He went to the University of Connecticut and earned a degree in 1979. Later, he studied law at the West Virginia University College of Law and became a lawyer in 1984.
After finishing law school, he worked for the City of Stamford. From 1985 to 1988, he was a staff counsel. Then, he became an assistant corporation counsel in Stamford.
Becoming a Judge
In 2000, Richard Robinson was chosen to be a judge on the Connecticut Superior Court. He worked there for several years.
On December 10, 2007, he was appointed to the Connecticut Appellate Court. This court hears appeals from decisions made in lower courts.
Then, on December 19, 2013, he was appointed to the highest court in the state, the Connecticut Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of Connecticut
In November 2017, the chief justice at the time, Chase T. Rogers, announced she would retire. Governor Dannel Malloy then nominated Justice Andrew J. McDonald to take her place. However, the Connecticut Senate did not approve this nomination.
In April 2018, Governor Malloy nominated Richard Robinson to be the next chief justice of Connecticut. Robinson was sworn into this important role on June 18, 2018. He made history by becoming the first African-American chief justice in Connecticut.
On May 21, 2024, Chief Justice Robinson announced his plan to retire in September. He officially retired from his position on September 6, 2024.
