Richard Blount's Life and Work
Richard Blount was the son of Richard Blount and Elizabeth de la Ford. His family was well-known and connected to the Mountjoy family. His father bought a place called Mapledurham in 1489.
Richard Blount worked for two kings: Henry VIII and Edward VI. He was even made a knight in 1550 or 1551. Being a knight was a special honor given by the king.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Richard Blount became the keeper of Dedisham manor and Slinfold in Sussex. Because of this, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Steyning in 1553. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the country's government.
Serving Queen Elizabeth I
During the time of Mary I, Richard Blount was not very active in public life. But when Elizabeth I became queen, he returned to public service. In 1563, he was chosen to represent Oxfordshire in Parliament. Queen Elizabeth I also made him the lieutenant of the Tower of London. This meant he was in charge of the Tower, which was a very important and secure place.
Richard Blount's Family
Richard Blount married Elizabeth Lyster by 1529. They had two sons:

- Richard Blount (died 1628), who also became a Member of Parliament for Lymington in 1593.
