Richard le Despenser, the 4th Baron Burghersh, was an English nobleman who lived from 1396 to 1414. He was the son of Thomas le Despenser, who was the 1st Earl of Gloucester. His mother was Constance of York.
Constance of York was a very important person. Her father was Edmund of Langley, Duke of York. He was the fourth son of King Edward III of England. Constance's mother was Isabella of Castile, whose father was Peter of Castile, a king.
Richard married his second cousin, Lady Eleanor Neville. Eleanor was a granddaughter of John of Gaunt. John of Gaunt was a brother of Edmund of York, Richard's grandfather.
Sadly, Richard died when he was still young. He did not have any children. Because he had no children, his younger sister, Isabel, became his heir. Isabel later married two different noblemen. First, she married the Earl of Worcester. Then, she married her cousin, Richard de Beauchamp, who was the 13th Earl of Warwick.
After Richard le Despenser passed away, his wife Eleanor, Lady Burghersh, married again. Her second husband was Henry Percy, the 2nd Earl of Northumberland.
