Richard Wayne Dumas Jr. (born May 19, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His father, Rich Dumas, also played professional basketball in the American Basketball Association (ABA).

Richard Dumas: Basketball Journey

Richard Dumas is a talented basketball player who stood 6 feet 7 inches tall. He played as a small forward. He went to Oklahoma State University before starting his professional career.

Joining the NBA

In 1991, the Phoenix Suns picked Richard Dumas in the NBA draft. He was the 46th player chosen that year. However, before the 1991–92 season began, Dumas faced a challenge. He was suspended from the NBA for not following the league's rules about player conduct. During his suspension, he played basketball in Israel for a team called Hapoel Holon.

Rookie Season Success

Dumas finally started his NBA rookie season 19 games into the Suns' amazing 1992–93 season. He quickly showed how good he was. He scored an average of 15.8 points per game and grabbed 4.6 rebounds per game. His strong play helped the Phoenix Suns win 62 games, which was the best record in the league that year. The team even made it to the 1993 NBA Finals, which is the championship series. Because of his great performance, Dumas was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. This means he was recognized as one of the best new players in the league.

Later NBA Years

After some time away, Richard Dumas returned to the Phoenix Suns in 1995. He played 15 games that season, averaging 5.5 points. Later, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers in 39 games, scoring 6.2 points per game. After this season, Dumas did not follow some team rules. Because of his past issues, he was no longer allowed to play in the NBA.

Playing Around the World

Even though he could no longer play in the NBA, Richard Dumas continued his professional basketball career overseas. He played for teams in different countries. He played for Gymnastikos S. Larissas in Greece and Pekaes Pruszków in Poland. He also played for the Westchester Wildfire in the United States Basketball League. Richard Dumas retired from playing basketball in 2003.
