Richard Egielski, born on July 16, 1952, in New York City, is a talented American artist and writer. He is famous for creating more than 50 children's picture books. He even wrote eight of these books himself! He studied art at Parson's School of Design.

Richard Egielski's Creative Journey
Working with Other Authors
Richard Egielski often worked with writer Arthur Yorinks. Together, they made nine amazing picture books. One of their most famous books is Hey, Al. This book won the prestigious Caldecott Medal in 1987.
He also drew pictures for the popular Tub People series. These books were written by Pam Conrad.
His Own Books and Awards
In 1995, Richard Egielski wrote and illustrated a book called Buz. The New York Times newspaper thought it was one of the top ten best children's books of that year. They especially loved his drawings!
Another book he illustrated, Jazper, was also named a New York Times Best Illustrated Book in 1998.

Life Outside of Work
Richard Egielski lives in Milford, New Jersey. He lives there with his wife, Denise Saldutti. She is also an artist and illustrator. They have a son together. Richard Egielski has Polish-American family roots.
