Milford is a small town, called a borough, located in western Hunterdon County, in the state of New Jersey. In 2020, about 1,232 people lived there. This number was very close to the population in 2010.

Milford officially became a borough on April 15, 1911. This happened after people voted for it on May 8, 1911. The borough's official status was confirmed later, on March 13, 1925.

The town is right next to the Delaware River. Its history goes back to the mid-1700s. Back then, a grist mill (a place to grind grain) was built by a river. After a fire destroyed the mill in 1769, the area was called "Burnt Mills." Later, it was named "Lowreytown" after Thomas Lowrey bought land there in 1796. By the early 1800s, people started calling it "Millford" or "Millsford." By 1863, the name was consistently spelled "Milford."
