Richard Halford (1662–1742) was an English politician from Edith Weston, Rutland, England. He served in the English and British Parliaments between 1698 and 1713. He was part of the Tory political group.

Who Was Richard Halford?

Richard Halford was born in 1662. He was the oldest son of Charles Halford and Elizabeth Mitchell. His family lived in Edith Weston.

Richard studied law at a place called Lincoln's Inn starting in 1679. This was a common path for people who wanted to work in government or law. In 1696, he took over his father's responsibilities.

Halford's Time in Parliament

Richard Halford became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Rutland in 1698. An MP is someone chosen by people to represent them in the country's government. This first election was called the 1698 English general election.

He was chosen again in several more elections:

  • 1701 (twice)
  • 1702
  • 1705
  • 1708

In the 1710 British general election, Richard Halford did not win at first. However, after a special review, he was given his seat in Parliament on January 23, 1711. He continued to serve until 1713. He did not run or was not chosen in the 1713 British general election.

Later Life

Richard Halford never married. He passed away on September 28, 1742, when he was 80 years old.
