Richard Hancorne (born December 24, 1687 – died January 14, 1732) was a Welsh clergyman. A clergyman is a person who works in a church, like a priest or minister. He served in several churches in Wales during his life.

Richard Hancorne's Early Life
Richard Hancorne was born on December 24, 1687. His birthplace was a town called St Donats in Glamorgan, Wales. His father was also a clergyman named Thomas Hancorne.
Richard went to Jesus College, Oxford, a famous university. He started there in 1705. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), in 1709. Later, he received his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1714.
His Career as a Priest
Richard Hancorne began his work at the Church of Llantwit Major with Llysworney. He started as a reader in 1708. A reader helps lead church services. He also became a lecturer in 1715, teaching about religious topics.
He became a deacon in 1710. A deacon is a step towards becoming a full priest. In 1711, he was ordained as a priest. This was done by John Tyler, who was the Bishop of Llandaff.
Richard Hancorne later became the rector of two churches. He was the rector of Barry starting in 1716. He also became the rector of Sully in 1721. A rector is the main priest in charge of a church. He stayed in these roles until he passed away.
Church Restoration Work
Richard Hancorne is remembered for helping to fix up a church. In 1712, he oversaw the restoration of the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Llandow. The chancel is the part of the church near the altar.
This important event was written down on a stone tablet. You can still see this tablet on the outside wall of the chancel today. The message on the tablet is in Latin.
Richard Hancorne's Death
Richard Hancorne died on January 14, 1732. He passed away in Sully, Glamorgan.
His tombstone is located at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Llandow. It was first placed on the floor inside the church. Now, it rests against the east wall of the church's porch.
