Richard Tambling's Early Life and Football Journey

Richard Tambling grew up in the Northern Territory of Australia. He lived in a remote Aboriginal community until he was 13 years old. After that, he moved to Jabiru in Kakadu National Park, where he spent most of his childhood.

Starting Football as a Teenager

When he was younger, Richard played football, but not very seriously. English was not his first language. As a teenager, he moved to Darwin, Northern Territory to live with his grandmother. This is when he started taking football more seriously. He joined the NT Thunder program and played in national championships for younger players.

Becoming a Top Draft Pick

During this time, talent scouts noticed him. Richard was known for his amazing speed and ability to understand the game. He showed these skills even more during the 2004 pre-season. Many people, including coach Terry Wallace, thought he was one of the best young players in the country. In the 2004 AFL Draft, Richard was chosen as the fourth player overall by the Richmond Football Club.

Richard Tambling's AFL Career

Richard Tambling played in the AFL for several years. He started his career with the Richmond Football Club.

Playing for Richmond (2005-2010)

By 2009, some people were criticizing his performance. In a game against the Western Bulldogs, Richard had a tough match. His coach, Terry Wallace, later explained that Richard had just become a father two days before the game, which affected his sleep. After this, Richard was not chosen for the next game. However, he worked hard and returned to play some of his best football. He played very well in games against Sydney, Fremantle, and the West Coast Eagles. He started to show the great skills that everyone expected from him.

Moving to Adelaide (2011-2013)

On October 6, 2010, Richard Tambling moved to the Adelaide Football Club. He was traded in exchange for some draft picks. He played 16 AFL games over three years for Adelaide. At the end of the 2013 season, he finished his time with the club.
