Richelle Carey (born October 13, 1971) is an American broadcast journalist and news anchor. A broadcast journalist is someone who reports the news on television, radio, or the internet. She is known for her work on the news channels Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera America.
Before that, Carey was a news anchor for the TV network HLN from 2006 to 2013. She joined HLN after working at a TV station in St. Louis, Missouri.

Early Life and Schooling
Richelle Carey was born in Houston, Texas. Her mother was a nurse who helped teenagers living in poor areas. For college, she first went to Smith College. She later graduated from Baylor University in Texas with a degree in telecommunications, which is the study of how information is sent over distances, like for TV and radio.
Career in Journalism
Getting Started
Carey began her TV career as an intern at a station in Houston, Texas. An intern is a student or trainee who works to get experience. She did well and was promoted to associate producer. A producer helps plan and create a TV show.
After leaving her first job, Carey worked as a reporter and anchor in different cities, including Las Vegas and St. Louis, Missouri. She then moved to Atlanta to work for the news network HLN.
Work at HLN
At HLN, Carey focused on stories about women and children who had been affected by violence. She interviewed many famous women, including singers Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, and Chaka Khan, about their life experiences. She also hosted a weekly show called "What Matters," which talked about important topics in the African-American community.
One of her most famous reports was from Fort Hood in Texas. She also spent a week in the country of Bosnia reporting on the work of American soldiers stationed there.
Joining Al Jazeera
In 2013, Carey became one of the first news anchors for the new channel Al Jazeera America. When the channel closed in 2016, she was one of the few people asked to stay. She moved to Doha, Qatar, to work for Al Jazeera English. In 2020, she briefly hosted the show UpFront.
Helping the Community
Carey is known for supporting teen girls and women. She has spoken out about important issues like women's rights.
She has volunteered for groups that help the community. She was a vice president for an organization called Men Stopping Violence. She also served on the board for the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. In 2020, Carey left Al Jazeera and moved back to the United States.
