Richard Joseph Gallot Jr., known as Rick Gallot, was born in April 1966. He is a leader in education and government. In October 2023, he became the president of the University of Louisiana System. Before this, he served for nearly nine years as the president of Grambling State University.
Gallot also worked in the Louisiana State Legislature. He was a member of the Louisiana State Senate for District 29. He belongs to the Democratic Party.

Early Life and Education
Rick Gallot was born in Ruston, Louisiana. He is an African American. He attended Grambling State University in Grambling. This is a historically black university.
After Grambling, he studied law. He went to the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He is also in the Southern Law Hall of Fame.
Public Service Career
Rick Gallot has served the people of Louisiana in several ways. He was a state lawmaker for many years.
Serving in the State House
Gallot first became a state representative. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 11. His term began in 2000. He worked there until 2012.
Time in the State Senate
In 2012, Gallot became a state senator. He represented District 29 in the Louisiana State Senate. He won his election in October 2011. He served as senator until January 2016.

After his time in the state legislature, Gallot moved into university leadership.
Leading Grambling State University
In April 2016, Rick Gallot was chosen to be the president of Grambling State University. This is his alma mater. To show his commitment, he donated $20,000 to the university. He said he wouldn't ask others to do what he wouldn't do himself. He led Grambling State for nearly nine years.
President of the University of Louisiana System
In October 2023, Gallot was named president of the University of Louisiana System. This system includes many public universities across Louisiana. It is a very important role in state education.
Other Activities
In April 2016, Gallot joined the Board of Directors for Cleco Corporation. This company provides electricity. It is based in Pineville, Louisiana.
