Rickey Grundy (born Ricky R. Grundy on January 30, 1959 – died July 27, 2015) was an American gospel singer and songwriter. He was also the leader of a group called The Rickey Grundy Chorale. Rickey Grundy began his music career in 1988. He released albums with Sparrow Records that became popular on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart. He passed away in 2015 after being unwell.

Early Life and Education

Rickey Grundy was born in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. He was a very bright student and finished high school when he was only 15 years old. After high school, he continued his studies at the University of Southern California. There, he focused on music at their special music school.

Rickey Grundy's Music Career

Rickey Grundy started his journey in music in 1979. He wrote a song called "Call Him Up" for another gospel artist, Keith Pringle. Rickey also played the piano for Pringle and wrote other songs for him. In 1988, Rickey was the main singer on Pringle's song "I'm So Grateful."

Later in 1988, Rickey Grundy began his own recording career. He released his first album, Spirit Come Down, with Sparrow Records. This album became quite popular, reaching number 22 on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.

His next album, The Rickey Grundy Chorale, came out in 1990. This album was even more successful, climbing to number 10 on the same Billboard chart. Besides his music, Rickey Grundy also appeared in the 2004 movie The Ladykillers. In the film, he played the role of a choir leader.
