Ricobayo facts for kids
Ricobayo is a small place in the province of Zamora, which is in Spain. It used to be its own town, but now it's part of a bigger area called Muelas del Pan.
The Ricobayo Bridge
Ricobayo has always been an important place to cross the River Esla. The very first bridge here is now underwater. It was covered when the Ricobayo reservoir was built. Since the 1990s, the main way to cross the river has been the Ricobayo Arch Bridge.
The Dam and Reservoir
In the 1920s, people decided to build a large gravity dam on the River Esla at Ricobayo. This dam created the big lake known as the Ricobayo Reservoir.
The dam is part of a bigger project called Saltos del Duero. This project includes other dams in the area around the Duero River, like the Almendra Dam. These dams help to make electricity for people.
Besides making electricity, the Ricobayo Reservoir is also used for fun activities. People can go boating or swimming there. However, in the summer of 2021, there was a problem. The electric company Iberdrola drained a lot of water from the reservoir. This made it less attractive for tourists who wanted to visit.
