Riggs is a small, unincorporated community in Boone County, Missouri, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own official local government like a city or town.
Today, the main part of Riggs is the Riggs Union Church. Years ago, there was also a small store and several homes at the intersection of Old Number 7 and Williams Road. The Mount Carmel (Sims) Cemetery is also located nearby.
What is the History of Riggs?
The community of Riggs once had its own post office. This post office opened in 1889 and stayed in operation until 1907.
Riggs was named after a local businessman named Shelton Riggs. He was a merchant, and his store was also where the post office was located.
