Henri "Rik" Joseph Boel (born September 5, 1931 – died November 13, 2020) was an important Belgian politician and a judge. He spent many years working for his hometown and his country.

Rik Boel's Early Life and Studies
Rik Boel was born in Tienen, Belgium, on September 5, 1931. He went to the Catholic University of Leuven. In 1954, he finished his studies and became a lawyer. He worked as a lawyer for many years, until 1986.
Rik Boel's Political Career
Rik Boel began his journey in politics in 1958. He was elected to the city council in Tienen. He represented the Belgian Socialist Party. He served on the council until 1986.
Mayor of Tienen
Boel became the mayor of Tienen in 1964. He served as mayor until 1976. Later, he was mayor again from 1983 to 1986. As mayor, he helped manage the city.
Serving in the Belgian Parliament
In 1965, Rik Boel was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. This is like a main law-making body for the country. He was re-elected several times, serving until 1978.
From 1977 to 1978, Boel held a very important job. He was the Minister of the Interior. This role meant he was in charge of things like police and elections for the whole country. He worked under Prime Ministers Leo Tindemans and Paul Vanden Boeynants.
After this, Boel became the Speaker of the Cultural Council in 1979. This council later became the Flemish Parliament. He remained its speaker until 1981. In 1981, he was elected to the Belgian Senate. This is another part of the Belgian Parliament.
Rik Boel as a Judge
In 1986, Rik Boel was appointed as a judge. He joined the Court of Arbitration. This court makes sure that laws follow the country's constitution. Because of this new role, he stopped all his political jobs.
Boel served on the Constitutional Court from 1986 until he retired in 2001. For a few months in 2001, he was the President of the Dutch language group on the Court. This was a leadership role within the court.
Later Life and Passing
Rik Boel retired from his work as a judge in September 2001. He passed away at his home in Tienen on November 13, 2020. He was 89 years old.
