Riley Edward Robinson (born November 4, 1847 – died February 1921) was an important person in Florida's history. He worked as a carpenter and also served as a minister in the Episcopal Church. He was also a city councilman, a custom house inspector, and a state legislator.

Riley Robinson was a councilman in Fernandina, Florida for many years. He served from 1875 to 1879, then from 1883 to 1890, and again from 1892 to 1894. He also represented Nassau County, Florida, in the Florida House of Representatives in 1883 and 1885.

Early Life and Moving to Florida

Riley Robinson was born in Tennessee in 1847. He was born into slavery. In 1858, he moved to Alachua County, Florida. He lived there until after the American Civil War ended.

After the war, he moved to Duval County, Florida. There, he learned the trade of a carpenter. In 1870, he moved to Nassau County, Florida.

Public Service and Community Roles

Riley Robinson was a leader in his community. He was a member of the Masons, which is a fraternal organization. He was also a key leader in the Republican Party in Nassau County.

He was known as R. E. Robinson when he served as a state legislator. He also worked as the postmaster for the Kings Ferry post office in Nassau County. The Christian Advocate newspaper even mentioned his work in the area.
