Location of Rimer, Ohio

Rimer is a small, unincorporated community located in Putnam County, Ohio, United States. Being "unincorporated" means it's not an official city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Sugar Creek Township. You can find Rimer in the western part of this township, right along State Route 189. It's situated between two other communities, Fort Jennings and Vaughnsville.

A Glimpse into Rimer's Past

Rimer has an interesting history, even though it's a small place.

How Rimer Got Its Name

When Rimer was first planned out in 1881, it had a different name: Roxburg. However, the name didn't stick for long. The community was later renamed Rimer to honor D. P. Rimer. He was the person who originally owned the land where the community was built.

Early Communication: The Post Office

For many years, Rimer had its very own post office. This post office opened in 1882, helping people send and receive letters and packages. It served the community for quite a while before closing its doors in 1916.
