The Story of Rio
Rio has an interesting history with a few name changes!
How Rio Got Its Name
When the drink was first created in the 1980s, it was called Arriva. This name came from a French word meaning "to arrive." Later, in 1994, its name was changed to Rio Riva. After that, it was simply called Rio.
Giving Rio a New Look
Over the years, Rio has had some cool makeovers!
- In 2013, a design company called Dragon Rouge gave Rio a new look. This happened because people knew the name "Rio" but didn't know much about the drink itself.
- Then, in 2017, another company called Pearlfisher redesigned Rio again. This time, they got ideas from bright and colorful Brazilian street art. They wanted the drink to appeal more to younger people.
- The Rio logo also changed. The letter 'O' in "Rio" was turned into a sun! This was to highlight their fun slogan: "Celebrate the Sunny."
- In June 2017, Rio also started selling its drinks in 500ml plastic bottles. This was a big step for the company to help the brand grow.
Rio's Partnerships and Growth
Rio has also teamed up with other groups to grow its brand.
- In 2018, Rio started sponsoring a racing car driver named Bobby Thompson. This helped more people learn about the drink.
- In 2021, Rio partnered with Boost Drinks. Boost Drinks helped with selling, marketing, and distributing Rio drinks.
- In October 2023, a big change happened. Another British soft drink company, A.G. Barr, bought Rio from Hall & Woodhouse. This means Rio is now part of an even bigger family of drinks!
