Rishang Keishing (born October 25, 1920 – died August 22, 2017) was an important Indian politician from Manipur. He served as the Chief Minister of Manipur multiple times. He was in this top role from 1980 to 1988 and again from 1994 to 1998. Rishang Keishing also worked as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Manipur in the national government.

Early Life and Education
Rishang Keishing was born in Bungpa Khunou, a village in the Ukhrul district of Manipur. His parents were Rungdi Keishing and Mungshingla Keishing. They belonged to the Tangkhul Naga community.
He started his college studies at Scottish Church College in Kolkata. After a year, he moved to St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College. He successfully finished his degree there.
Political Journey and Roles
Rishang Keishing had a long and active career in politics. He started by joining the Freedom Struggle in India. As a student from 1945 to 1947, he attended important meetings.
He was a member of the Socialist Party of India from 1947 to 1964. Later, in 1964, he joined the Indian National Congress party. He stayed with this party for the rest of his life.

Contributions and Achievements
Rishang Keishing helped set up many important things. He was the first Head Master of the first High School in Ukhrul district from 1949 to 1952. He also helped found other high schools in Phungyar, Kamjong, and Kasom Khullen.
He was the Chairman of the Eastern Border Development Authority. He also led the Barak Development Board from 1995 to 1997. He helped create the Foundation for Management of Tribal Areas (MATA) in 1998. He also supported projects for processing ginger oil and fruits.
In 1952, Keishing was first elected to the Lok Sabha. He represented the Socialist Party. Later, he joined the Indian National Congress party. He remained a member of this party until he passed away.
He first became a member of the Manipur State's Vidhan Sabha (state assembly) in 1972. He won the Phungyar seat and represented it for 30 years. He won the election 7 times. In 2002, he lost in the assembly elections. His son, Victor Keishing, later won the same seat.
After his defeat in 2002, Rishang Keishing moved to Delhi. He represented Manipur in the Rajya Sabha for two terms. These terms were from 2002 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2014. In 2007, he became the oldest member of parliament in India. He retired from the Rajya Sabha in 2014 when he was 93 years old.
In 1968, Keishing and another politician faced disciplinary action from the Manipur Congress. This happened because they signed a letter to the Prime Minister of India. The letter suggested that Naga-populated areas of Manipur should join Nagaland. In 1972, he helped create an agreement. This agreement recognized the idea of bringing together Naga-populated areas under one administration.
Keishing served as the Chief Minister of Manipur for several terms. His first period was from 1980 to 1988. He then served again from 1994 to 1997.
In 2014, Keishing announced that he would not run for the Rajya Sabha elections again. He said he was no longer interested in continuing.
Personal Life
Rishang Keishing married Khatingla Keishing in 1950. They had a family with two daughters and four sons. He passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. He was 96 years old. He died at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Imphal, Manipur.
