Ristine, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ristine is a small, quiet place in New Madrid County, Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

How Ristine Began

Ristine started in 1882. This was a time when railroads were very important for travel and moving goods across the country. The community began right when a new railroad line reached that spot.

A few years later, in 1888, a post office was opened in Ristine. This was a big deal because it meant people could send and receive letters and packages more easily. However, the post office only stayed open for a short time, closing its doors in 1894.

The name "Ristine" comes from a person named Mr. Ristine. He was an official who worked for the railroad company. It was common back then to name new places after important people involved in their creation, especially those connected to the railroads that helped them grow.
