The River Tiddy (which is Teudhi in the Cornish language) is a small but important river in the south-east part of Cornwall, England. It is the main "tributary" of the River Lynher. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river.

The River Tiddy starts its journey near a place called Pensilva. From there, it flows towards the south-east. It passes by the village of Tideford before it joins the River Lynher. This meeting point is just after the river flows past the historic village of St Germans.

About the River Tiddy

The River Tiddy plays a key role in the local area of south-east Cornwall. Even though it is a small river, it helps to drain water from the land around it. This water then flows into the larger River Lynher.

Where the Tiddy Flows

The journey of the River Tiddy begins high up near Pensilva. This area is about 240 meters (787 feet) above sea level. As the river flows, it winds its way through the beautiful Cornish countryside. It travels for several miles before reaching its end point.

The river's path takes it through green fields and past small woodlands. It collects water from smaller streams along the way. This helps the river grow a little bigger as it gets closer to the sea.

Villages Along the River

Two main villages are closely connected to the River Tiddy: Tideford and St Germans. Both have a special relationship with the river.

Tideford Village

The name of the village Tideford actually comes from the River Tiddy itself! "Tideford" literally means "Ford on the River Tiddy." A "ford" is a shallow place in a river where people and animals can cross. This tells us that the river was an important crossing point for people in the past.

St Germans and the Quay

St Germans is a very old and historic fishing village. It sits right on the River Tiddy. This is just a short distance upstream from where the Tiddy joins the River Lynher. The village has a special area called the Quay. A quay is a platform built next to water for loading and unloading boats.

The Quay Sailing Club is based at St Germans Quay. This shows that the river is still used for fun activities today. Sometimes, the lower parts of the River Tiddy and the River Lynher are both called the "St Germans River." This happens especially when they are downstream of St Germans village.
