The Rivière de Grand-Saint-Louis is a smaller river that flows into the Gentilly South-West River. From there, its water joins the Gentilly River, and then eventually reaches the mighty St. Lawrence River.
This river flows through the town of Bécancour in Quebec, Canada. It is located in the Bécancour Regional County Municipality, which is part of the Centre-du-Québec region.

Where is the Grand-Saint-Louis River?
The Grand-Saint-Louis River is surrounded by other rivers and areas.
- To the north, you'll find the Gentilly River and the Saint Lawrence River.
- The Gentilly River is also to the east.
- To the south, there's the Bécancour River and Poulet stream.
- The Bécancour River is also to the west.
The River's Beginning
The Grand-Saint-Louis River starts in a farming area. This spot is right on the border between the towns of Saint-Sylvère and Bécancour. It's close to a road called Route des Peupliers. This area is north of the Bécancour River and west of the village of Bécancour.
In this starting area, east of the Bécancour River, you'll find four roads named after trees: Poplars, Cherry Trees, Beech Trees, Elms, and Spruce Trees.
How the River Flows
From the border between Saint-Sylvère and Bécancour, the river flows through forests and farmlands. It travels for about 12.9 kilometers (8 miles). During its journey, the river drops about 60 meters (197 feet) in height.
Here's how the river flows:
- For 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles), it goes northwest through a forest. It passes under the bridge on the Route des Peupliers.
- Then, for 1.7 kilometers (1.1 miles), it continues northwest through farmland until it reaches the Beech Road.
- Next, it flows 2.1 kilometers (1.3 miles) north to Route 226.
- After that, it travels 4.6 kilometers (2.9 miles) north. For 2.3 kilometers (1.4 miles) of this part, it flows through a small valley carved out by the water. This section leads to the Route des Ormes, or the small community called "Grand-Saint-Louis."
- Finally, it flows 2.1 kilometers (1.3 miles) northeast, still in a small valley, until it meets another river. The Spruce Path runs alongside this part of the river on its southeast side.
Where the River Ends Its Journey
The Grand-Saint-Louis River joins the Gentilly South-West River on its west bank. This meeting point is about 1.0 kilometer (0.6 miles) southwest of Route 261. It's also 215 meters (705 feet) northwest of the Route des Épinettes. This spot is 1.7 kilometers (1.1 miles) west of the Gentilly River and 4.3 kilometers (2.7 miles) east of the Bécancour River.

The name "Saint-Louis" is a common family name that comes from France. The name "Rivière de Grand-Saint-Louis" was officially given to the river on August 18, 1978. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is Quebec's official place-name commission.
