About Rob Sheridan
Early Life and Career
Rob Sheridan was born on October 11, 1979. When he was 17, in 1997, he helped make the "Dancing Baby" animation very popular online. This was one of the first big internet trends, called a meme.
Sheridan studied art at Pratt Institute in New York. After one year, when he was 19, he got a job with the band Nine Inch Nails. The band's leader, Trent Reznor, hired him in 1999 because Rob had made a great fan website for the band.
Working with Nine Inch Nails
Rob started by managing the official Nine Inch Nails website. Soon, he became the band's art director. This meant he was in charge of how the band looked visually. He took photos, designed websites, created album covers, and directed music videos. He also made the cool visuals you see during their live concerts. He worked as their art director from 1999 to 2014.
He also helped Trent Reznor create the story for the "alternate reality game" that went with Nine Inch Nails' 2007 album, Year Zero. This game imagined a future world where art was a way to fight against strict rules.
In 2010, Sheridan also helped start the band How to Destroy Angels. He was part of their music and toured with them in 2013.
Creative Work and Styles
Sheridan is famous for his "glitch art." This is a style where he purposely messes up images and photos to create new, unique artworks. He uses old VCRs and TVs to record and change visuals, making his special glitch effects. He also did the artwork for Nine Inch Nails' soundtrack for the movie The Social Network.
Besides glitch art, Rob is known for his illustrations, photography, and graphic design. He has also directed and edited concert films. He directed the 2005 Nine Inch Nails music video for "The Hand That Feeds."
In 2018, Rob Sheridan announced he would write a comic book called High Level. It was released in 2019 by Vertigo, a part of DC Comics. He even worked with his former Nine Inch Nails tour colleagues to create music for the comic series.

Rob has explored using AI to create art. In 2022, an AI-generated art piece he made went viral. In 2023, he shared images of a fake "satanic fashion show" that looked so real, many people thought it was a true event at New York Fashion Week. These images were completely made with AI and Photoshop. This process is called "syntography." The images were so convincing that even the Church of Satan had to say it wasn't real!
Sheridan has also directed and edited videos for other artists. In 2015, he made a video for the band The Black Queen called "Ice To Never." He also worked with director David Fincher on the soundtrack for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He created visuals for Puscifer's shows from 2015 to 2017.
Live Stage Visuals
In 2024, Rob Sheridan worked with the band Pearl Jam for their "Dark Matter" tour. He and his wife, Stephanie, created amazing stage visuals by filming chemical reactions and light at very high speeds. This was the first time Pearl Jam used such video visuals on tour. Rob's work also appeared in their "Wreckage" live music video.
