Rob Shick is a famous former ice hockey referee. He worked in the National Hockey League (NHL) for many years. He was born on December 4, 1957, in Port Alberni, British Columbia. He retired from refereeing in March 2009.

Starting His Career

Rob Shick began his career as an NHL referee in the 1985–86 NHL season. He quickly became a well-known face on the ice. He wore uniform number 16 from the 1994–95 NHL season onwards. He also started wearing a helmet in the mid-1990s to stay safe during games.

A Long and Successful Career

Rob Shick had a very long and successful career. He refereed over 1,321 regular season games in the NHL. He also worked 130 playoff games. This means he was on the ice for many important hockey moments. He even refereed two NHL All-Star Games during his time.

His Final Game on the Ice

Rob Shick refereed his very last game on March 7, 2009. This game was played at Ronald B. Stafford Arena. The teams playing were the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Norwich Cadets. After his retirement, his game-worn and signed NHL jersey was placed in the referee change room in his hometown. This special place is the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Family Life

Rob Shick is married to Lynda Frye, M.D. They have four children together. Their children's names are Austin Frye, Rachel, Landen, and Brodie.
