Robert L. Braddy Sr. is a famous American college baseball coach. He was born on January 9, 1941. Coach Braddy spent 27 years leading the baseball team at Jackson State University. He is known for his many wins and for helping young athletes.
A Baseball Legend
Robert Braddy grew up in Florence, Mississippi. He loved baseball from a young age. He went to Jackson State University for college. There, he played college baseball for the Jackson State Tigers team. He was a Pitcher, throwing the ball to batters.
Coaching the Tigers
In 1973, Robert Braddy became the head coach for the Jackson State Tigers baseball team. He coached them for a long time, until the year 2000. During his time as coach, his teams won 824 games and lost 546. This was a new record for wins in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
Coach Braddy's teams were very successful. They won 12 SWAC championships. This means they were the best team in their conference many times. His teams also made it to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament three times. This is a big national competition for college baseball teams.
After Coaching
After stepping down as head coach in 2000, Braddy continued to work at Jackson State. He became the athletic director until 2011. An athletic director helps manage all the sports teams at a university.
In 2009, Jackson State University honored Coach Braddy. They named their baseball field Braddy Field after him. This was a special way to recognize his hard work and dedication.
