Robert Byng was an important English politician who lived from around 1530 to 1595. He was the oldest son of John Byng and Agnes Spencer. Robert Byng was chosen to be a member of the English Parliament two times.
He represented the area of Steyning in 1555. Later, in 1559, he represented Abingdon. He likely got the Abingdon seat with help from his first wife's stepfather, Sir John Mason.

His First Marriage
His first wife was Frances Hill. She was the daughter of Richared Hill. Robert and Frances had three sons together. Their oldest son, George Byng, became his main heir. An heir is someone who inherits property or a title.

After Frances, Robert Byng married Mary Maynard. With Mary, he had three more sons and one daughter. One of their sons was William Byng (1586–1669). William later became the Captain of Deal Castle from 1611 to 1642.
