Robert Clifford, 4th Baron de Clifford (born between 1328 and 1331 – died 1350) was an important noble in England during the 1300s. He was part of the powerful Clifford family. Robert was also a major landowner in a place called Skipton Craven.

Early Life and Family

Robert was the son of Robert, the third Baron de Clifford. When his father passed away in 1344, young Robert was only about 13 to 16 years old. This meant he was still a teenager when he inherited his family's important title and lands.

Marriage and Guardianship

In April 1343, Robert married Euphemia. She was the daughter of Ralph, Lord of Raby. At that time, Robert was under the care of Ralph Neville. This was a common practice called "wardship." It meant that a powerful lord looked after a young noble who had inherited land but was not yet an adult.

His Short Life

Robert Clifford's life as a baron was very short. He died in France in 1350. He was still quite young and had not yet "come of age." This means he had not reached the age when he would be legally considered an adult and fully in charge of his lands.

Robert did not have any children. After his death, his wife Euphemia remarried within two years. She married a son of Thomas, Lord Lucy. Euphemia lived for many more years, until November 1393.

Who Came Next?

Because Robert died without children, his younger brother became the next Baron. His brother, Roger de Clifford, 5th Baron de Clifford, took over the family title and lands.
