The Robert E. Howard Museum is a special place in Cross Plains, Texas. It's located where Texas State Highway 36 meets Avenue J. This museum was once the home of a famous writer named Robert E. Howard. He created many exciting characters, including the well-known hero, Conan the Barbarian. In 1994, this historic house was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important building worth protecting.
History of the Howard Home
This white house was built around 1919. A couple named Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Coffman built it. Soon after, Dr. Isaac M. Howard and his wife Hester Ervin Howard bought the house. Their son, Robert E. Howard, was a teenager when they moved in. Dr. Howard later added a bathroom and a back porch to the house. Robert E. Howard lived there until he passed away in 1936. His father sold the house in 1944.
Visiting the Museum
The Robert E. Howard Museum celebrates the life and works of the author. Two groups, the Robert E. Howard Press Association and the Robert E. Howard Foundation, help run the museum. They also host a special event every June. During this event, the local library stays open longer. This allows visitors to see its collection of Robert E. Howard books and items.
