Robert Findlay (minister) facts for kids
Robert Findlay (1721-1814) was an important Scottish minister. He helped start the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1783. This society was a group of smart people who wanted to learn and share new ideas. Many famous thinkers from the Scottish Enlightenment were part of it.
Robert Findlay's Life Story
Robert Findlay was born in March 1721 in a town called Kilmarnock, Scotland. His father, William Findlay, was a merchant. Robert studied at universities in Glasgow, Leyden, and Edinburgh.
He became a minister of the kirk of Scotland in 1744. He worked in several churches, including Stevenston, Galston, and Paisley. In 1756, he moved to St. David's Church in Glasgow.
Later in his life, in 1776, Glasgow University gave him a special degree. It was called a Doctor of Divinity (DD). In 1782, he became a professor at the University of Glasgow. He taught about religion and stayed in this job until he passed away.
Robert Findlay died on June 15, 1814. He was buried in Ramshorn Cemetery in Glasgow.

Their son, also named Robert Findlay (1745-1862), became a merchant in Glasgow.
