Robert Halley's Life Story
Starting a Business: Promodès and Carrefour
In 1961, Robert Halley started a big shopping company called Promodès with his father, Paul-Auguste, and his brother, Paul-Louis. He worked at this company for his entire career. Later, Promodès joined with another very large company named Carrefour. After this merger, the Halley family became the biggest owners of Carrefour.
Leading the Family Business
Sadly, Robert's brother passed away in 2003. After this, Robert Halley became the main person representing his family on Carrefour's management team. This team helped run the company every day. In 2007, he became the head of the company's supervisory board. This board watched over the management team. In 2009, a magazine called Challenges said he was the 11th richest person in France.
Robert Halley's Political Work
Robert Halley also served his community in government roles. From 1978 to 2001, he was the Mayor of a town called Les Moutiers-Hubert. As mayor, he made a decision to sell the town hall building. The money from this sale was used to pay for burying electricity wires underground. This made the town look nicer and safer. He also worked as a General Councillor for the Canton of Livarot from 1991 to 2004. A General Councillor helps make decisions for a larger area, like a county.
Later Life and Passing
Robert Halley passed away in Lisieux, France, on January 10, 2021. He was 85 years old.
