Robert Kerr, 2nd Earl of Lothian (died 1624) was a Scottish nobleman who lived a long time ago. He held an important title called "Earl of Lothian" in Scotland.

Who Was Robert Kerr?

Robert Kerr was the oldest son of Mark Kerr, 1st Earl of Lothian. His father was given the special title of Earl in 1606. Robert had three younger brothers named William, Mark, and James, and also some sisters. In 1606, he started working as a Master of Requests, which was a job in the government.

When his father, the 1st Earl, passed away in 1609, Robert took over his title and became the 2nd Earl of Lothian. A poet named William Douglas of Tofts wrote a poem about him. The poem said that Robert Kerr had traveled to many places in Europe. It also mentioned that he studied mathematics and astrology, which is the study of how stars and planets might affect people's lives.

Earl Robert's Role in Trials

In 1617, Earl Robert Kerr helped with a trial. He worked with John Hamilton of Preston to hear the case of a blacksmith named John Hunter from Prestonpans. The blacksmith was accused of stealing iron parts from farms in nearby villages over several years.

Family Life and Marriage

In 1611, Robert Kerr married Lady Annabella Campbell. She was the daughter of another important nobleman, Archibald Campbell, 7th Earl of Argyll. Robert and Annabella had two daughters together, named Anne and Johanna. Lady Annabella lived until 1652.

Their daughter Anne got married on December 9, 1630. She married her relative, Sir William Kerr of Ancrum. Sir William later received a new title and became the Earl of Lothian on October 31, 1631.
