Robert Marchand was an amazing French cyclist who lived for a very long time, from 1911 to 2021. He was born in Amiens, France. He was known as a "centenarian" because he lived to be over 100 years old! Marchand became famous around the world for his incredible cycling achievements, even when he was over 100 years old.

A Life on Two Wheels
Robert Marchand loved cycling his whole life. When he was 35 years old, in 1946, he competed in a big race called the Grand Prix des Nations. He finished in seventh place, which was a great achievement!
Returning to Cycling
After some time away, Marchand returned to cycling in 1978. He kept training and riding his bike, even after he turned 100 years old. His dedication to cycling inspired many people around the world.
Breaking World Records
Robert Marchand set some truly amazing world records for his age group.
- In February 2012, when he was over 100, he set a world record for one-hour track cycling. He rode 24.250 kilometres (15.068 mi) in just one hour!
- He didn't stop there. In January 2014, he broke his own record! He cycled an even more impressive 26.927 kilometres (16.732 mi) in one hour.
These records showed how strong and determined he was, even at an advanced age.
Beyond the Bike
Besides cycling, Robert Marchand was also a member of the French Communist Party. This is a political group in France. He was also part of the CGT Trade Union. A trade union is a group that helps workers get fair pay and good working conditions. Marchand was a member of this union for over 90 years, making him their longest-serving member alive at the time of his death.
Retirement and Legacy
Robert Marchand finally retired from cycling in January 2018, when he was 106 years old. He passed away on 22 May 2021, just six months before his 110th birthday.
