Sir Robert Roos (died December 30, 1448) was an English knight and an important official. He was known as the Lord of Moor End. Sir Robert worked for King Henry VI of England in several key roles. He was a special helper called a Carver to the King, and he also served as the leader of a region in France called Gascony from 1442 to 1443. Later, he was in charge of Rockingham Castle and its surrounding area from 1443 to 1448. In 1445, he managed money and trade for the town of Berwick-on-Tweed.

Sir Robert Roos's Life

Sir Robert Roos was the fourth son of William Roos, Lord Roos of Helmsley and Margaret de Arundel. His family was quite important!

In 1440, Robert was chosen to be an ambassador. This meant he was a special representative sent to talk with other countries. His job was to try and make peace with France. In 1442, he also helped arrange the king's marriage.

Around this time, Sir Robert became one of King Henry VI's special "household knights." These were knights who worked closely with the king every day. As a "Carver to the King," he had the important job of serving food at royal meals.

From 1443 until 1448, Sir Robert was the "Keeper" of Rockingham Castle. This meant he was in charge of the castle and the land around it. It was a big responsibility! In 1445, he also worked as a "Chamberlain and Customer" for Berwick-on-Tweed. This meant he helped manage the town's money and collected taxes.

In 1448, Sir Robert Roos was sent to France again. His mission was to agree on a "truce," which is a temporary stop to fighting, during the long conflict known as the Hundred Year's War.

Sir Robert Roos passed away on December 30, 1448. He was buried in St. Mary's church in Pipewell, Northamptonshire.
