The Roberts Mound is an ancient Native American mound located in Ohio, USA. It is a special place that helps us learn about people who lived a very long time ago.

What is the Roberts Mound?

The Roberts Mound is a large pile of earth shaped like a cone. It was built by Native Americans during a time called the Woodland period. This period lasted from about 1000 BC to 1000 AD.

Where is it Located?

You can find the Roberts Mound in Butler County, Ohio. It is northwest of a town called Auburn. The mound sits in a specific area known as Section 36 of Reily Township. It is the only mound in that part of the township.

What Makes it Special?

Many similar mounds and other earthworks (shapes made from earth) are found near the Roberts Mound. However, this mound is unique because it has never been dug up by archaeologists. Digging up a site is called an excavation.

Because it has not been excavated, we do not know for sure which specific group of people built it. Artifacts (old objects found at a site) usually help us understand the builders. But since this mound has not been disturbed, it is one of the best-preserved mounds in the whole region. This means it is still in its original condition.

Why is it Important?

The Roberts Mound is very important for understanding history. Because of its archaeological value, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history or culture. Five other ancient sites in Butler County were also added to this list in the same year.
