Robin Michal Koontz (born July 29, 1954) is an American author and illustrator. She creates fun picture books and early reader books for younger children. She also writes non-fiction books for middle school students, like you! Her books are published in many languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, and Indonesian. Many of her stories have received great reviews from important book journals.
About Robin Koontz
Robin Koontz was born in 1954. She grew up in two different places: Wheaton, Maryland, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She loved art and studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore from 1973 to 1974. Today, Robin lives near Noti, Oregon.
Robin was a leader for a special group called the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She helped lead the Oregon chapter of this group from 1994 to 2012. This society helps writers and artists who create books for kids.

Hall of Fame Honor
In 2018, Robin was honored by her old high school, Albert Einstein High School. She was added to their Arts Hall of Fame. This was to celebrate her amazing contributions to visual arts and art education.
Book Awards
Two of Robin's books have also won special recognition:
- What's the Difference Between a Butterfly and a Moth won an International Reading Association Teachers Choice Award in 2010. This means teachers thought it was a great book for kids!
- Leaps and Creeps: How Animals Move to Survive was a finalist for the Animal Behavior Society's Outstanding Children's Book Award in 2012. This award recognized it as one of the best books about how animals behave.
