Rockville VA
The center of Rockville, Virginia.

Rockville is a small community located in Hanover County in the central part of Virginia, a state in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Rockville got its name from William Rock, who was the postmaster there in the early 1800s. Before that, it was known as "Dentonsville," named after an earlier postmaster, Allen Denton. Allen Denton's family used to own a tavern, which is now a private home. When William Rock bought the tavern, the community's name changed too! Rockville used to be mostly farmland. Today, many people who live in Rockville travel to Richmond for their jobs.

Living in Rockville

Even though much of Rockville is still farmland, some areas have been developed into new neighborhoods. These neighborhoods offer homes while still keeping some of the natural land.

New Neighborhoods

One example of a new neighborhood is Carrington Glen. This area is a "rural conservation development." This means that 70% of the land is kept natural and untouched, which helps protect the environment. Other large neighborhoods in Rockville include Shop Creek and Willoughby.

The Cochrane Rockville Library

The local library in Rockville has recently been updated and is now much bigger! This was made possible by a generous donation from J. Harwood Cochrane, who used to run a big transportation company. To thank him, the library changed its name from the Rockville Library to the Cochrane Rockville Library. It's part of the Pamunkey Library System, which serves several communities.
