Sergio Rodríguez García (born on August 17, 1984), known by his nickname Rodri, is a Spanish former professional footballer. He played as a central defender, which is a player who helps protect the goal. Rodri had a long career playing for many different clubs.

Rodri's Football Journey

Rodri started his football journey in Mataró, a city in Catalonia, Spain. He joined the famous FC Barcelona youth system, where many great players learn to play.

Starting Out at Barcelona

Rodri spent many years learning and playing in Barcelona's youth teams. He played for FC Barcelona C and FC Barcelona B before getting a chance with the main team. He played two games for the first team in La Liga, Spain's top football league. His first game was on December 11, 2004. Even though he played only a few minutes, it was a big moment for him. Barcelona won the league title in his second year with the club.

Moving to Other Clubs

In 2006, Rodri moved to Deportivo de La Coruña, a club in Galicia. He played six games for them over two seasons. To get more playing time, he was loaned to other teams. In January 2007, he played for UD Almería in the second division. He also spent the 2007–08 season playing for Polideportivo Ejido, another team in the second division.

In September 2008, Rodri went on loan again, this time to C.S. Marítimo in Portugal. He did not play any games there. In January 2009, he returned to Spain and joined UD Salamanca, another second-division team.

Success with Hércules

In July 2009, Rodri left Deportivo and signed with Hércules CF, a team also in the second division. This was a great move for him! In his first year, he played 38 matches and scored four goals. This was his best season as a professional player. His goals helped Hércules get promoted back to La Liga after 13 years away.

Rodri played 13 games for Hércules in the 2010–11 La Liga season. He often played when other defenders were injured or suspended. In March 2011, he moved to FC Spartak Moscow in Russia. He signed a one-year contract with the club.

Later Career and Retirement

After his contract with Spartak Moscow ended, Rodri returned to Spain. On August 31, 2012, he joined Rayo Vallecano. He then spent two years playing for K.A.S. Eupen in Belgium. After that, he continued his career in the lower leagues of Spanish football. Rodri retired from professional football in 2019.
