Rodrigo started his career by co-directing a comedy film called 8 Dates in 2008. After that, he began directing movies on his own. His first solo film was Stockholm in 2013. This movie was so good that it earned him a nomination for the Goya Award for Best New Director.

He also made a short film called Mother in 2017. This short film won the Goya Award for Best Fictional Short Film. It was even nominated for an Academy Award (an Oscar!) for Best Live Action Short Film in 2019.
