Rodulfo Amando Philippi Bañados (born May 25, 1905 – died July 31, 1969) was a Chilean scientist who studied birds. He was known as an ornithologist. Rodulfo was the great-grandson of another famous German scientist, Rodolfo Amando Philippi (1808-1904), who also studied nature.

Rodulfo worked at the National Museum of Natural History in Santiago, Chile. There, he was in charge of the bird collection. He wrote many important books and papers about the birds found in Chile. Even though he loved birds, his main job was being a doctor for children, also known as a pediatrician.

Rodulfo Amando Philippi Bañados was born in Santiago, Chile. His father, Otto Philippi, was also a doctor. Following in his father's footsteps, Rodulfo studied medicine. He became a pediatrician, a doctor who specializes in caring for children.

A Passion for Birds

Even with his medical career, Rodulfo had a strong interest in birds. This passion led him to become a curator of birds at the National Museum of Natural History in Santiago. He held this important position from 1938 to 1966.

During his time at the museum, Rodulfo Philippi became a leading expert on Chilean birds. He published many significant works about the different bird species living in the region. His research helped people learn more about the amazing bird life of Chile.
