Roger's Hurling Career

Starting Out in Hurling

Roger Ryan started playing hurling when he was young. He played for the Toomevara club. In 1962, when he was just 17, he joined the club's senior team. In his very first year, he helped Toomevara win the North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship.

Playing for Tipperary

Even though Roger did not play for Tipperary at minor or under-21 levels, he joined the senior team in 1969. He played as a full-forward. In 1971, Roger was a key player when Tipperary beat Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was a huge win!

Roger continued to play for the Tipperary senior team until 1976.

Moving to a New Club

In 1974, Roger changed clubs and joined Roscrea. He kept playing hurling at a high level. In 1980, Roger won the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship with Roscrea. He was the team captain in his last season in 1981.
