Roland Sebastian Martin, born on November 14, 1968, is an American journalist. He is known for being a commentator on TV One and for hosting shows like News One Now and Washington Watch with Roland Martin.
He also worked as a contributor for CNN, appearing on popular shows such as The Situation Room and AC360. In October 2008, he became a senior analyst for the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Today, he hosts a web series called Roland Martin Unfiltered on YouTube.
Martin has written several books. These include Speak, Brother! A Black Man's View of America, Listening to the Spirit Within: 50 Perspectives on Faith, and The First: President Barack Obama's Road to the White House as originally reported by Roland S. Martin. He also wrote White Fear: How the Browning of America is Making White Folks Lose Their Minds.

Roland Martin's Early Life and Career
Growing Up and Education
Roland Martin was born in Houston, Texas. His family has roots in Louisiana, with his great-grandparents moving there from Haiti. He studied journalism at Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Later, he received a master's degree in Christian communications from Louisiana Baptist University.
Working in Journalism
Martin was once the executive editor of the Chicago Defender, a well-known newspaper. From 2005 to 2008, he hosted a morning radio talk show on WVON in Chicago. He also worked as a contributor for CNN from 2007 to 2013. During this time, he even filled in as a guest host for Campbell Brown: No Bias, No Bull in 2009.
Hosting TV Shows
In 2009, Roland Martin became the host of TV One's first Sunday news program, Washington Watch with Roland Martin. This show aired for four years. In March 2013, Martin announced he was leaving CNN, with his last day being April 6, 2013.
On July 9, 2013, it was shared that Martin would host TV One's first live weekday morning news show, NewsOne Now. The program started on November 4, 2013. On December 7, 2017, Martin announced on air that NewsOne Now was canceled. However, he continued to work with the network. On January 14, 2018, he won two NAACP Image Awards for the show.
Roland Martin also hosted a three-hour radio show called The Roland Martin Show. He currently hosts his web series, Roland Martin Unfiltered, which you can watch on YouTube.
