History of the Archdiocese
The Archdiocese of Concepción has a long and interesting history. It started a very long time ago.
How it Began: Diocese of La Imperial
- On March 22, 1563, this church area was first created.
- It was called the Diocese of La Imperial.
- It was formed from a part of the Diocese of Santiago de Chile.
Becoming the Diocese of Concepción
- In 1603, its name was changed.
- It became known as the Diocese of Concepción. This is the city where it is located.
Becoming an Archdiocese
- On May 20, 1939, the area became even more important.
- It was promoted to a Metropolitan Archdiocese.
- This means it became a central church region with other smaller church areas connected to it.
