The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Concepción is a special church area in the city of Concepción, Chile. It's like a big church district led by an Archbishop. This area helps guide many Catholic churches and communities. It is one of the most important church regions in Chile.

History of the Archdiocese

The Archdiocese of Concepción has a long and interesting history. It started a very long time ago.

How it Began: Diocese of La Imperial

  • On March 22, 1563, this church area was first created.
  • It was called the Diocese of La Imperial.
  • It was formed from a part of the Diocese of Santiago de Chile.

Becoming the Diocese of Concepción

  • In 1603, its name was changed.
  • It became known as the Diocese of Concepción. This is the city where it is located.

Becoming an Archdiocese

  • On May 20, 1939, the area became even more important.
  • It was promoted to a Metropolitan Archdiocese.
  • This means it became a central church region with other smaller church areas connected to it.
